COURSE DESCRIPTION

This in-depth course will concentrate on addressing the needs of library professionals using electronic databases. As you progress through the course you will gain a general knowledge of the terminology used in online searching and develop the skills needed to analyze various types of search requests. This foundation will enable you to identify the best method and tools for performing an online search. You will be given exercises to reinforce your learning experience. At the completion of the course, you will have gained the tools and techniques necessary for developing your online searching skills.


COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of the course, you will be able to meet the following objectives:
  • Determining the information needs of your patron
  • Evaluating database(s) by criteria that match your information needs
  • Developing your search strategy in order to access information within online database(s)
  • Evaluating search results to ensure the patron's requirements are met


COURSE STRUCTURE

The course addresses these issues and more in a web-based course designed to take about 1 1/2 hours to complete. It contains multimedia elements, external links, pre- and post-tests, and course evaluation modules.
