COURSE DESCRIPTION

Ethics is the study of moral issues: good and evil, right and wrong-the understanding of the practice of virtues, and their opposites.

This course, authored by noted library and organization consultant Pat Wagner, is designed to present the basics of ethical behavior for library leadership. This course covers topics such as Practical Matters, Everyday Ethical Standards, Benefits, the Rule of Law, Transparency and Fairness, Access and Privacy, as well as other ethical concerns.




COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • ensure that a specific decision or action is made in an more ethical fashion
  • create a better environment for ethical decision-making in your library
  • ensure your library, as an institution, is behaving in an ethical manner
  • encourage ethical thinking and action outside the library among library users, the larger community and institution, and within the library profession


COURSE STRUCTURE

The course addresses these issues and more in a web-based course designed to take about 1 1/2 hours to complete. It contains multimedia elements, external links, pre- and post-tests, and course evaluation modules.
