A current organizational priority at TSCPL is the development of a Virtual Branch to serve library users online.  This Manager will provide vision and leadership in designing, bringing online, and supporting the Virtual Branch, bringing ideas to the table with a high “wow, cool, nobody else is doing this!” factor.  This Manager will lead a highly skilled cross-discipline staff in using new technologies to translate traditional library services into a digital, Library 2.0 format and provide innovative digital library services to our community, continuing a TSCPL tradition of exemplary customer service.

The Virtual Branch & Services Manager

·         manages information systems and technology resources for the Library, providing strategic direction and oversight for the development and support of information technology for the Library’s managers, staff and users, including desktop services, PCs, peripheral equipment, and software; the Library’s network, Intranet, and Internet services; database resources; and telecommunication services for all library locations and bookmobiles. 

·         oversees the utility, integrity and security of the Library’s databases and online resources. 

·         addresses the implementation of wireless applications for internet access. 

·         supervises a staff of professionals, technical, clerical and support staff in providing services to a customer base that includes TSCPL staff, users, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate

- working knowledge of current information technology developments and the ability to anticipate IT trends as they apply to traditional library services
- knowledge of trends and issues related to digital library services, programs and collections (including but not limited to blogs, wikis, online gaming, podcasting, and RSS).

- the ability to inspire a shared vision and enable the fulfillment of the vision.
- extensive experience supervising public library services.  A Master’s in Library and Information Science or Management Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is preferred. 

 - knowledge of effective supervisory and management practices and principles in a public library setting and experience supervising public service staff. Experience should include managing both professional and support staff and promoting teamwork.
- working knowledge of and ability to manage relevant multi-platform resources, including Internet resources, PCs and network systems, office and library applications.
- a passion for working with and serving people.  Experience providing outreach to community groups, organizations, library users and potential users is highly desired.

- excellent interpersonal and creative problem-solving skills.

- ability to adapt in fast-changing environments, willingness to take risks and consider new and untested approaches.

- exceptional written and oral communication skills in English, including experience in public speaking. Knowledge of one or more languages in addition to English is highly desirable.

- a sense of humor and a positive and enthusiastic approach to public service.

Salary range is $49,432-$61,800/yr., DOE
