Pat Bogue and Shari Ellison are both Branch Managers for the Mid-Continent Public Library. They are both paraprofessionals with 50 years experience who will share their insights into the ever changing roles of a library paraprofessional.

Do you struggle to find inventive ways to market your collection to your patron? This workshop will bring together some talented people who have developed some effective techniques for promoting the library and its materials. Learn how to create exciting themed displays on tables, shelves, countertops or in display cases. Learn how to market your library like a bookstore with guidance from the staff of Barnes and Noble. And learn how to promote effectively, inside and outside your library building with tips from the marketing Specialist form Mid-Continent Public Library.
Instructors:
Brian McCann is the Assistant Manager at Mid-Continent Public Library's Boardwalk Branch. he enjoys the accessibility and orderliness of creating displays.
Helen Park has over 10 years experience creating marketing and artists' displays at the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library.
Jim Staley is the marketing Manager at Mid-Continent Public Library. His background is rooted in both for-profit advertising and non-profit communications.
Nicole Pfaff is a Library Page at the parkville Branch of Mid-Continent Public Library and has a natural gift for creating interesting and engaging displays.
Kira Green is the Assistant Branch manager of the Parkville Branch of Mid-Continent Public Library and has been passionate about merchandising since her days as a Teen Librarian.

No matter where we go, we will face people who are negative, people who oppose our ideas, people who irritate us or people who simply do not like us. There thousands of people out there and conflict is a fact of life. This fact isn't the cause of conflict but it is the trigger us to; react and attack back to defend ourselves.
Difficult people and situations exist in every work place. They all have one thing in common. You must address them. No matter the type of difficult situation in which you find yourself, dealing with difficult people or situations is a must.
This workshop is exactly what you need. You will learn a variety of techniques to give you confidence and expertise in dealing with the difficult patron or co-worker. You will be able to rise above the fray and approach every conflict with a calm demeanor creating an atmosphere of win-win for all involved.

Tiffany Hentschel, SPHR, is the Employee Relations Manager for Johnson County Government. She has worked in Human Resources in the public sector for nearly 15 years, serving more than nine years at the Johnson County Library. Tiffany earned a Master's Degree in Human Resources Development and a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management from Webster University. She is a member of the MARC Government Training Institute Supervisory Certificate training team and also trains on a variety of HR topics

Learn to use Microsoft Excel to transform your spreadsheet data into graphical representations. this class will cover charting basics, embedded vs. chart sheets, choosing the correct chart type, formatting charts, creating user defined chart types, and picture charts.
At the completion of the Excel 2007 Charts workshop, participants should be able to:
* Identify the different components of a chart
* Determine which type of chart is appropraite to use
* Create pie charts, line charts, and bar charts
* Move the chart from a worksheet to a new worksheet
* Make modifications to existing charts
