Keynote Speaker: Sarah Howard will present "Up and At 'Em: Revisiting Simple Music and Movement Activities." reminding ourselves of simple circle games, echo songs, chants and movement activities that can be shared with older children, families and teachers. Resources and painless participation promised!
What's New and Hot: Back by popular demand, Debbie McLeod will share her "top 10's" in pictures books, chapter books, and non-fiction books for children.
Gov Doc Kids Group: Providing Government Information for Children: Join us as we describe government information available for children, teachers, parents and youth services librarians. There's a wealth of information just waiting to be discovered.
Connecting with "los Ninos" at the Library: Explore the ways in which you can serve the Latino children in your community: programming for Latino children, delivering bilingual storytimes, conducting booktalks and fun with puppets.
Johnson County 6 x 6 @ JCL: Johnson County Library has reinvented Every Child Ready to Read with their new early childhood literacy program, 6 by 6, Ready to Read. Kathy McLellan and Bradley Debrick will share the planning behind their efforts and the way they are helping children and caregivers experience the six traits. 6 by 6, where learning to read meets having fun.
2010 Helbie Award: Would you like to participate in choosing the 10th annual Helbie Award winner? Helbies are awarded for the best use of humor in illustrations in a picture book. Join Debbie McLeod and Helma Hawkins as they lead the group in the evaluation and selection process.
Amazing Open-Ended Art Ideas: What is open-ended art? Why use this approach with children? Anne Reaves, Plaza Library, will share ideas for using open-ended art in the library, including specific examples, materials you will need and how to get them, and provide a hands-on experience with an open-ended art project.

Kathy McLellan currently serves as the Youth Outreach and Early Literacy Specialist for Johnson County Library. She is well into her 34th year at JCL where the only thing she hasn't done is change tires. She has a B.A. in Communications from Ottawa University with emphasis on early childhood and art education.

Full refunds or credits are available for cancellations made a minimum of seven days prior to the workshop minus a $5.00 administrative fee. You can transfer to another workshop a minimum of seven days before the workshop with no administrative fee. Cancellations made less than seven days prior to a workshop receive no refunds or credits.
